In 2010, we installed a large photovoltaic array at the cookery school that generates a percentage of the electricity that we use. Using this method, approximately 15,000 KWH is generated annually, and we are happy to report that we have so far avoided the production of 28 Tonnes of CO2.
Solar power is the conversion of sunlight into electricity, either directly using photovoltaics, or indirectly using concentrated solar power. The first solar cell was constructed by Charles Fritts in 1805. Solar cells produce a direct current which fluctuates with the intensity of the sunlight on a given day.
The charts below demonstrate both the energy production over the current year, as well as that produced yesterday.
