Come to the beautiful Ballymaloe Cookery School gardens to experience and learn about Shinrin-Yoku. Also known as Forest Bathing, this is the gentle art of connecting with our natural environment to promote mental, emotional and physical well-being.

Erin Geraghty of Eriu Forest Bathing will lead us through this slow-paced immersion in the landscape. Under the canopy of beech trees in a peaceful corner of the 100-acre organic farm, Erin will start with grounding exercises, gradually opening our senses to engage with nature in a new and deeply nourishing way. This creates an embodied experience, gently bringing us out of our busy lives and minds to appreciate the sound of the natural world around us, the sunlight filtering through the leaves, the texture of the ground under our feet. By reconnecting with nature, we feel restored to ourselves.

We will finish with a tea ceremony with Erin and Maria Walsh our in-house herbalist using foraged herbs from the gardens, seasonal treats prepared on site and a poetry reading.

Outdoor boots and waterproof clothing are recommended for this all-weather event.

The prestigious Ballymaloe 12 WeekCertificate Course is run three times a year, with courses beginning in January,April or May, and September.

The course is aimed at anyone with a passionate interest in food. Many of our students use the course as a springboard to become a professional chef; others use it to equip themselves with a marketable skill.

Others still take the course simply to maximize the pleasure they get from cooking at home.

Students develop a deep and detailed understanding of food and how it is produced. The emphasis is on recognising the best ingredients and knowing how to showcase them.
